BRAT is a Michelin-starred restaurant in East London, known for its Basque-style, fire-led cooking. It’s run by head chef @tomos_pp, originally from Anglesey, North Wales. Tomos and the @bratrestaurant team asked me to create an honest, documentary-style film that captures the history and heritage behind his cooking. I wanted the film to feel raw and tactile, so I shot it mostly on 16mm, which definitely came with its challenges. For the darker scenes and extra B-roll, I used the Blackmagic G2, downscaled to 2K, paired with the same super speed lenses as the 16mm aaton camera. With some careful grading and added grain, I was super happy with the results, the footage blended very nicely. It was a real pleasure collaborating with Tomos and the BRAT team—such a passionate, talented group who really care about what they do.
